Le jardin de la pie

We are sometimes mistakenly led to believe that paradise is a destination, the reward after a long journey. But this is a trap to encourage us to stay on the same path and believe that paradise is waiting for us, beyond the horizon, just around the bend.

Paradise is the path, it hides in the most fleeting moments and the laughter that strikes us out of the blue. Paradise lies in that conversation we have with the one we love, when we finally go below the surface of things and reveal what we really think, even though we were so afraid to do so.

It is a perfect cup of tea: the boiled water, the delicate china, the clear and intense flavour. It is the first bite of a crisp apple. It is a solved riddle. It is the nap that you reward yourself with. It is the helping hand when you no longer had the strength to climb alone. Paradise is fragments, moments, memories reunited.

Like the shiny objects that magpies collect: shards of mirror, a pocket watch, feathers, crystals and jewellery. Paradise is made of the pearls that we make the effort to collect every day and make our own.

Since starting Studio TOOP in 2005, Carrie Preston has come to be regarded as one of the leading landscape designers in the Netherlands. A New Jersey native, she came to the Netherlands in 2000 after earning a degree in Horticulture and Sustainable Agriculture at Delaware Valley University in Pennsylvania. She brings to her work the confident clarity born of more than 25 years of experience in working with this medium. In 2016 she was named the Association of Landscape Designers “Designer of the Year”. She has given lectures and workshops in Lithuania, Russia, the Ukraine and the United States. Her work has been featured in many gardening magazines in the Netherlands, the Ukraine, Russia and Lithuania, as well as English-language publications such asAssociation of Landscape Designers. Elle a donné des conférences et animé des ateliers en Lituanie, en Russie, en Ukraine ou encore aux États-Unis. Ses travaux sont parus dans de nombreux magazines de jardinage aux Pays-Bas, en Ukraine, en Russie et en Lituanie, ainsi que dans des publications anglophones telles que Garden’s Illustrated, Grow Tess Krüs The Designer. En mars 2017, elle est conceptrice invitée au sein du Philadelphia Flower Showstudied graphic design at the Stinze et remporte une médaille d'argent ainsi que le Governor's Trophy de la conception la plus innovante. Aux côtés de plusieurs autres jurés internationaux, elle est invitée à participer et crée son Botanical Bacchanalia sur la place du Manège.

Née à Paris, la graphiste et artiste Enora Elmoznino grandit dans le New Jersey. Élevée dans un milieu familial artistique, elle étudie à l'École américaine des beaux-arts de Paris, puis au sein de l'Académie Charpentier, où elle suit un cursus de communication visuelle axé sur le graphisme. Avec plus de 20 ans d'expérience dans le graphisme digital, l'image de marque et l'aquarelle traditionnelle, ses travaux actuels aspirent à faire la balance entre les arts traditionnels et digitaux.

Tess Krüs a étudié le graphisme au sein de la Media & Design Academy in Genk (Belgium) before embarking on a career in retail design spanning almost 30 years, both in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. In this setting, she developed modular systems and found pleasure in adapting concepts to fit the constraints of budget and context, finding the beauty in economy, making grand ideas feasible. She joined Studio TOOP in 2008. She is a master in creating visualisations and technical drawings in a wide range of styles. Her patient, inventive precision is indispensable to bringing the designs to practical life. She is a natural craftsman and constructor.

A recent graduate from Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences with a specialization in Landscape Management, Farhana Rasheed joined the Studio TOOP team in February 2018. She is characterised by an enthusiastic spirit and openness towards people. Her main interests within horticulture and garden design include planting design and community participation projects which provide long term sustainable solutions.
