The garden
This garden is therefore in the image of this relationship: two spaces rub shoulders, look at each other and communicate. For there to be a meeting, there must be a limit, a border, an interface that enables exchange, embodied by a huge piece of furniture which spreads out along the plot.
It harbours information, discoveries treasures about plants. They are presented in various forms: dried, ground, brewed, prisoners of herbariums… A piece of furniture, which is accessible from both sides and which can be crossed, forms that involuntary link which remains on any border.
A real sensory wall, this exchange surface sometimes makes you want to touch, to caress; but also to see, to observe or even to hear, to listen to, perhaps to taste, sometimes quite simply to feel with your whole body. There is thus an appeal to all the senses.
DESIGNERS
Loïc Nys, studied Applied Arts and graphic design at the “Lycée Léonard de Vinci” in Montaigu (Vendée) and left this institution with a BTS [advanced vocational qualification] in visual communication in 2005. It was in Paris that he came face to face with the world of work, discovering the fashion, event management and communication universes, one after the other. He set up there as a Graphic Designer in July 2009. Paris, a city that offers a wealth of experiences and of opportunities for meeting people, allows him to develop in an environment that is conducive to creativity and to be in touch with numerous fields, such as landscape, museography, interior architecture, etc.
Cécile Larcher, became a government-approved architect with a diploma from the school in Rennes in 2007. She was attracted by the Loire and so moved to Nantes where she finished off her training by doing a course in architecture. She then went back up the river and discovered Chaumont-sur-Loire. She just stopped off there and then discovered Paris and the Seine, entering into its professional universe. 2009 enabled her to meet the people she wanted to work with. It was with these very people that the Chaumont Garden Festival project was born.
Sébastien Migné, fresh from the Boulle school (2007), he initially continued doing the freelance work which he had started while still a student. He began by doing sketches for event management. As he wished to deal with long-term projects, he joined a museography agency and worked on the design of permanent exhibitions. Between rushed jobs at the agency, he took part in various competitions with friends who had different and complementary competences, always motivated by the same desire: highlighting meeting with people and poetry. For him, being a designer of space means sowing magic beans and letting them grow… No doubt Chaumont’s gardens will provide him with fertile soil.
Sébastien Roussel, a new starter who came out of the class of 2005-2009 of the Landscape School in Versailles and has always been interested in the plant and animal world... Nourished by a sensitive relationship with both these worlds, he has developed a dialogue with them in the landscape and gardens that he has dreamed up, planned and cultivated. In terms of teamwork, he linked up with engineers in Cambodia on questions of cleaning up the environment, with naturalists in Corsica on development subjects and with a filmmaker from the Louis Lumière School on a dream-like documentary between man and animals in Marseilles. These cross-perspectives enable the construction of future living spaces where man must redefine his place.
