The garden
Like a lost oasis in the desert, the hanging platforms in this garden float above a sea of sand that is gradually eating away at its very existence. In this context, the collection is fighting a battle of protection, survival even, in which each conserved plant becomes extraordinary by its future rarity. The garden thus bids you welcome into a mirage, on an extraordinary, soothing journey where you'll have time to contemplate...
In a maze-like structure of shelves and battens, jars, demijohns and other containers are piled high with plants that have taken on a life of their own in their glass receptacle. These plants with astonishing forms survive with no help from us. Around this collection, a jungle of climbing and hanging plants invades the construction, steadily erasing human trace and replacing it solely with the multitude of species and the radiance of this collection.
DESIGNERS
Claire Dematos was born in Lille and graduated from the St Luc ISA with a degree in architecture in 2005. She began her professional life at a landscaping agency before going on to specialise in “natural risks and emergency architecture” in 2010 at Paris-Belleville. After gaining experience abroad and in architectural agencies in the Lille metropolis, where she worked on a wide range of projects of varying scales, from furniture to spatial planning, she recently created her own enterprise. In 2014, very much aware of the artistic activity flourishing in the midst of the city, she co-founded the INK collective and initiated a number of artistic projects in the Nord département.
Swan Cazaux was born in Lille and graduated in Fine Arts. His work focuses on the practice of painting, examining the importance of images in today’s world – their dissemination and how they are perceived, in particular in the creation of new subjectivities. In parallel, he works with a mental health institution as a visual artist and has a growing interest in collective urban amenities – an interest that led him to co-found the INK collective with Claire Dematos.
