Orange mécanique

Might not this garden be the Hesperides, where the tree bearing golden apples is guarded by a dragon? Might not those precious fruits have become oranges here…? Planted with orange trees, the area is imbued with the delicate fragrance of these much coveted fruits. But look for them in vain – not a trace of them is to be found on these unproductive branches.

An unfurled orange peel, its glaring colour more the work of artifice than of nature, guides your steps to the midst of the garden – into the orange’s very belly! Press on inside, Trust in the delightful scents of orange blossom and the colour of the orange that clings to you so relentlessly. Enjoying a nice juicy orange in this particular garden would be delightful indeed, but here, in this season, it would be pure delirium!

This garden, planted with orange trees that bear no fruit, is in exact opposition to the intensive cultivation of the orange, one of the world’s most eaten fruits. In some countries, its farming has become nothing less than delirious. Here, however, take the time to put yourself in the orange’s skin – discover a place for resting awhile, for exchange and reflection on the “golden fruit”…

Rudy Toulotte

 

is a DPLG architect who graduated from the Lille ENSAP in 2004, after having completed his studies in the Netherlands. He works with a variety of architectural and landscaping agencies in Lyon, and as a freelance operator. At the DT studio, his practice has 3 main focuses: architecture, landscaping and the environment. He designs and implements multidisciplinary projects and also develops on-site installation projects.
