The garden
“By turning the chromatic circle, initially well-ordered colours mix together until they become grey”.
In the image of this experiment, situated between the static and dynamic, this garden attempts to translate this intermediary state in which vision becomes blurred and the atmosphere becomes cloudy and ethereal. The garden offers a journey between the material and immaterial. This complementarity is brought about by juxtaposing a static element, wooden decking, and a dynamic element, plants. Planted in a way that suggests randomness, they present flowers whose mix is interpreted through merging shades of blues and pinks, occasionally overrun with clouds of pinkish-white. The sequencing of the colours becomes less and less noticeable, the limits of the circle are no longer visible. Large numbers of flowers poke through the carpet of leaves carrying us off into a dream and taking us out of our depth for a few minutes. Here and there more forthright colours explode, as if to remind us that the state is, indeed, transitory. The decking which is occasionally raised, gives you the opportunity to consider the state of momentary imbalance achieved by the garden from another point of view.

Florimond Gauvin, who graduated from the ENSNP in Blois in 2002, is a landscape engineer and designer. He has built up a large number of settings and sites in which to express different landscape projects. His professional experience in France and abroad has enabled him to explore this profession through various approaches and applications. With many years of experience both in architecture and urban planning behind him, Florimond Gauvin created BIGBANG in April 2008. BIGBANG is a landscape architecture and urban design office. Design/creation and urban prospective in this office are based on the determination to offer landscapes that makes clever use of the seasons and a design that combines imagination with common sense.
Mathouta Vongphouthone graduated from the school of architecture in Lyon in 1998. Building her experience from her work with various architect’s and landscape architect’s offices, she explores multiple design fields from buildings to the development of outdoor spaces and from research to contract management, combining technical skills with imagination.
